ELCOT's English Language Enrichment programme targets students preparing for the Cambridge GCE 'O' Level English Papers 1 and 2.
The Language Tools Programme is a structured thinking-based approach focusing on the micro level linguistic skills for text interpretation. The training methodology and approach is based on leading edge ideas and research in the language teaching field, specifically, the research findings of the MA and EdD theses done by Dr. Benjamin investigating the micro-level linguistics skills targeted by examiners in the Cambridge 'O' level English Paper 2.
The strength of the ELCOT Language Tools programme is in the unique training methods and course content which empowers students to use a concrete procedural approach to working out answers to reading comprehension questions instead of simply guessing blindly. It also features a highly detailed analysis of student performance through a diagnositc feedback system that allows students to become aware of the flaws in their technique and skill knowledge. This unique feedback system raises metacognitive awareness and promotes independent learning. Feedback from thousands of students who have received training have been consistently very positive with large majority making significant improvements in their EL grade.
The ELCOT training philosophy seeks to empower students to become independant learners who can monitor their progress and develop a greater meta-cognitive awareness.
